Discipleship (Pre-Theology I)

St. Patrick Parish, Council Bluffs

My name is Shawn Daley and I have recently been accepted to the Propaedeutic year at the Saint Paul Seminary for the Diocese of Des Moines. I enjoy reading, playing the guitar, and golfing when I can.

The call to the priesthood has entered my mind at various times in my life, but I didn't seriously consider that that's where God was wanting me to be until the last few years. Through receiving the Sacraments, prayer, and growing to love the intellectual life of the Church I could see more clearly how God was moving in my life and the desire to serve Him grew greatly as a result.  Growing up in the Diocese of Des Moines I went to Saint Albert High School and attended St. Patrick's Parish, and was blessed to witness the example of many great priests in my area.

I attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and studied Music Performance and Philosophy, and eventually earned a Master of Music Performance from Denver University. The pursuit of beauty and the intellectual life throughout these times I believe ultimately led me back to seeking God in the priesthood.

After much prayer and discernment I am very excited to enter this new chapter of my life as I embark on the path to priesthood. The consolations in prayer in moving forward are humbling and I am very grateful to God. Please pray for me and my brother seminarians as we make this journey.
