Iowa Catholic Radio Moves to 105.5FM
April 2, 2025
You’re ears were not deceiving you if you tuned in to 1150AM on your radio this week expecting to hear Catholic programming and instead you heard Spanish.
The Catholic station and LaLey, a Spanish station, swapped locations on the dial.
The longtime home of Iowa Catholic Radio 1150AM KDLX (formerly KWKY) moved to 105.5FM, now called KIHS, and LaLey moved to 1150AM.
Several years in the making, the new KIHS offers a much-needed improvement in coverage for the Catholic station in Des Moines metro and beyond. Communities that will benefit from the new, 10,000-watt signal include Altoona, Ankeny, Bondurant, Clive, Granger, Grimes, Johnston, Polk City, Saylorville, Urbandale, Waukee, and West Des Moines.
Iowa Catholic Radio also obtained permission from the Federal Communications Commission to upgrade KIHS to a nondirectional pattern, which will improve coverage to Ames and surrounding areas.
The move is another step in developing a stronger signal and greater coverage. Iowa Catholic Radio Network aims to cover the whole state of Iowa with Catholic programming.
LaLey station officials were pleased with the switch, too.
“This change allows us to reach more listeners, improve signal quality, and continue bringing you the programming you love: community services, exclusive interviews, and the best Spanish music,” said the station’s general manager Lenny Montalvo Foss in a news release.
