How to Make A Spiritual Bouquet
by Alexis Nicholson | May 10, 2024
One of the most popular ways to celebrate someone we love is through gifting flowers. Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, birthdays, retirements, new jobs, even music concerts and plays – all can be easily celebrated with a beautiful bouquet from the local flower shop. In fact, it’s estimated that Americans buy 10 million cut flowers every day!
It’s no surprise that flowers are so popular because they are beautiful. As humans, we were made to search for and admire the things that are true, beautiful, and good, and flowers are a perfect example of this. But you know what is even more true, beautiful, and good? Prayer.
What is a Spiritual Bouquet?
Spiritual bouquets marry the popularity of gifting flowers with the goodness of prayer. Just like a bouquet has a variety of flowers within it, our spiritual bouquets offer the chance to gather up many different types of prayers to offer as a single gift. Spiritual bouquets can be made and given for any occasion, including no occasion at all but “just because”!
Ideas for Creating a Spiritual Bouquet
Creating a spiritual bouquet is simple and highly customizable. Identify who you want to give a bouquet to, what prayers you would like to offer for them, and either get drawing or print a template. You can do this as an individual or as a group (with each group member offering up one “flower” for the bouquet).
Prayers for a spiritual bouquet might include:
- Offering up your Mass intention
- Visiting the Blessed Sacrament
- Saying an Act of Contrition
- Praying a novena or chaplet
- Praying a rosary
- Fasting
- Or any other prayer you can think of!
Just like how you have many options for which prayers to pick, there are also a ton of ways you can put these bouquets together. If you're artistic, you may want to draw or paint flowers. If you’re doing this activity with children, they may want to cut out and glue construction paper flowers or make tissue paper flowers. Your options are only limited by your own imagination.
If any of that sounds intimidating, we also have created different templates that you can download and print out. There is a large bouquet that you can use to tally Masses, rosaries, Holy Communion, and visits to the Blessed Sacrament. If you want to personalize your bouquet, there is a printable with quarter-sheets for different "flowers" and prayers to offer up.
Spiritual bouquets offer a beautiful combination of heartfelt sentiment and the power of prayer, and provide a unique and meaningful way to express your love, support, and appreciation for others. So, the next time you're looking for a thoughtful gift or a meaningful way to show you care, consider the timeless beauty and profound impact of a spiritual bouquet.
