Independence Celebration Walk & Picnic — Jun 8, 2012
Join the Diocese of Des Moines on Sunday, July 1 for an Independence Celebration Walk and Picnic. The walk will begin at noon and will proceed from St. Ambrose Cathedral at 6th Avenue and High Street to the east lawn of the Capitol.
A picnic and celebration will follow. Picnic lunches will be available for purchase and music and speakers will highlight the event. Participants are also invited to bring their own picnic lunch.
For those unable to participate in the walk, ample free parking will be available near the picnic site.
The walk and picnic are part of a national “Fortnight for Freedom” June 21- July 4.
“This is an opportunity to emphasize both our Christian and American heritage of liberty,” said Bishop Richard Pates. “As Americans and believers, our church continues to express serious concerns with the current HHS mandate, which restricts religious liberty. This walk and picnic will both celebrate our long-standing religious freedom and raise awareness of the current threat to its future.”
A map of the route for the walk and parking options is available at dmdiocese.org/religious-liberty.cfm.
